city of palestine, Texas
From 2016 to 2018, I served as the Communications and Best Practices Officer for the City of Palestine, Texas. I also served, for a few months before my move to the City of Fairfield, as the Assistant to the City Manager. I learned a lot in Palestine about how a city operates, and worked with some great people. My main duty was the communications professional for entire city operations. Other duties included grant writing and management, project management, council relations, web design, and crisis communications. Some of the highlights include:
Administering a $625,000 Texas Community Development Block Grant to demolish a vacant hospital. The hospital had been abandoned for more than 20 years.
Completing a rewrite of city's Employee Handbook, a 10-month project that included input from employees, management, and elected officials.
Fostering transparency initiatives such as a Transparency Page on city website, broadcasting city council meetings on social media.
